After qualifying from Birmingham Dental School in 1983, I spent my whole clinical career in Community Dentistry, the last 17 years as a Clinical Director.

I currently enjoy a ‘portfolio career’ blending employment and self-employment within an envelope of education. I am an educational associate for the GDC in addition to being a registration assessment panelist for them. I am lead clinical tutor for the Law and Ethics module for Bristol University BUOLD programme.  In addition, I run my own coaching and training consultancy, Dentalia, providing coaching for leadership to dental professionals, also coaching for dental professionals with fitness to practice cases and also those who are seeking career coaching. I lecture on a broad range of education and training topics to include reflective practice, ethical practice, leadership skills, professionalism, under performance and communication skills. I am also a partner in the Dental Coaching Academy which provides leadership coaching and mentoring qualifications to dental professionals.

I have written several professional articles, research papers and had four books published: The National Care Record Service: an ethical system? in 2012; How to Survive Dental Performance Difficulties; How to Develop your Career in Dentistry and 100 years of women dental professionals 1918 – 2018.

I received an MBE for services to dentistry in the New Years Honours List 2007 and was awarded a Fellowship of the Faculty of General Dental Practice by election in March 2010. I was awarded an Educator and Trainer Award from HEE Thames Valley in 2014 for Contribution to Learning Environment.
